Thanks to The Bike Park and Open Door Restaurant, Constantia Uitsig is quickly becoming the place for families to visit if they’re wanting to share in some healthy outdoor adventure and then enjoy a fantastic brunch or lunch, complete with panoramic views of the mountain range.

Now there’s yet another element that’s set to entrench Uitsig on the family fun and fine dining map. Open Door’s new outdoor play area is as beautiful as it is bold.

“We wanted to create a wonderland for smaller children,” says Uitsig’s Julie Williams. “Whilst parents enjoy the views and fantastic fare at Open Door, their kids (no matter their ages) now all have a space to enjoy – older kids, at the Bike Park and younger ones, with mom and dad at Open Door’s play area.”

Ryan Kuhn and his team from Wooden Elements are the master craftsmen behind the play area. Having custom-built a life-size toy tractor, there’s also an open-plan wendy house, two climbing walls, multiple swings, spring-mounted balancing apparatus and a spiral slide to complete the wooden play tower.

Based in Kommetjie, Wooden Elements was established in 2008 and is fast becoming the forerunner of custom designed play elements for children of all ages – not only in Cape Town but nationally too.

If you’re planning on bringing the kids to Open Door anytime soon, be sure to book a table to avoid disappointment.
